A Health plan wanted to increase member participation in smoking cessation activities, using a pilot program.

Solution:

• Going to the pharmacy to get their prescription filled for Zyban or Wellbutrin, or
• Going to the pharmacy and purchasing Nicorette gum or a patch

Results:

• The client saw a 6% lift in participation with the incentive
• 25% - 35% of participants were still tobacco-free after 6 months
• The client received a warm response from people who earned an incentive and even received referrals from them
• The client said that it was an effective, low-cost way to increase member participation
